Ups and downs
I tried a heck of a lot of different things today.
I obtained some Silver Mica capacitors for the Neutralization and 12BY7 Feedthrough.
I tried swapping all of the boards from the FT-101F to the FT-101E. That was not successful. It turned on, but after about 3 or 4 seconds the receive cut out. Looks like the noise blanker board and the regulator board are different. I swapped several boards back and forth to try to get it working. But at some point, the crystal calibrator stopped working and the receive stopped working on the FT-101E that I was trying.
I swapped all of the boards back into the FT-101F, and the receive and crystal calibrator were working on it.
I swapped out the final tubes for a Svetlana set, and turned the heaters on. I was warming them up to try a transmit test on them, but there still was no idle current. However, all of the sudden smoke started coming up from the bottom of the radio. I shut it down and pulled the power. Looks like a big cloth covered power resistor was smoking, and super hot.
So I'm going to set the FT-101F to the side for now, since it has several problems now.
Back to the FT-101E, I took out my third FT-101E. It was missing regulator board. I tried the regulator board from the other 101E, and it fired up. Receive seems excellent, but I must have burned out the crystal calibrator on that board.
More investigations will be necessary :(
